Liberty HealthShare Rate Increases and Modifications

WEBPreviously, it was $500, $1,000, and $1,500 for singles, couples, and families. Now it’s $1,000, $1,750, $2,250. Like the dues amounts already discussed, I’m not thrilled with having these only on their website, but the bigger issue I have here is how the numbers have changed.

Liberty Health Sharing Update

WEBIt’s been a while since I’ve talked about health sharing–almost a year, in fact. Last summer, I was still comparing the offerings, but can now offer some insight into my own experiences. I’ve also been compiling the financial stats sent each month to Liberty HealthShare members. This month includes a few tweaks to the reporting that make the …

Improving Liberty HealthShare Part 1: The ShareBox

WEBMake the existing form a first step. Collect that information (provider name and address, amount paid, bill amount, etc.), and upload documentation. Let the first step put the expense in queue for processing. After that display an optional (at least for now) form where the member can enter each ICD code and line item cost.

Door latches, part 1: What type of door latches do you …

WEBLatch Partially Closed. Latch Fully Closed. The bottom line is that the mechanism for holding the door closed is much more secure. Of course, if you have one of the usual RV-style locks, latching and staying closed during travel is only one part of the problem. Many are keyed alike—the CH751 key is well known to be everywhere.

The HCSM: Healthcare Sharing in General

WEBAfter a couple of dense, long posts that were kind of dreary in tone, it’s time to shed some light on a set of viable options for RVers. Generally, what I’m referring to in this post are Health Care Sharing Ministries (HCSMs).

Health Care Sharing Ministries Comparison Part 2: …

WEBIn other words, provided you meet/agree to the religious and ethical requirements discussed before, you’ll be accepted. They point out that ineligible expenses, which include certain forms of pre-existing conditions, still aren’t shared–but you can join, satisfy the ACA’s individual mandate, and get coverage per the terms of the sharing …

Health Care Sharing Ministries Comparison Part 1

WEBI was tempted to call this post “sex, drugs, and worship,” but thought it might leave way too many people disappointed. One of the first questions for anyone considering participation in an HCSM is whether they can honestly agree with the religious and/or ethical standards laid out for the group.

Update on Liberty HealthShare

WEBIt’s been quite a while since I’ve discussed this subject–and Liberty is to blame for a good portion of that. You may recall that I’ve kept track of the monthly reporting on Liberty’s financials from their monthly newsletters (see here), monthly share amounts and a variety of other changes.. But those monthly newsletters lapsed, and around the …

Making Your Water Pump Quieter with Flexible Hoses

WEBHand-tighten one of the flexible hoses onto each side of pump. Connect the original pipe fittings to the ends of the hoses with the nipples. Tighten everything up, and with the valve still open from step 1, turn on the pump. Make sure the tank valve is open and there’s water in the tank. If there are no leaks at this point, close the faucet

HOWTO: Automatic Hot Water Recirculation and Freeze Protection

WEBSet the first dial to 1m, and the second dial to 50% to get a 30-second interval. For t2, we have two constraints. We want t2 to be short enough that in cold weather the water moves often enough to prevent freeze blockages. But we also don’t want it to be so short that it activates a second time while showering.

Is your Towable RV a Lemon

Electrical Myths, Part 4: AGM Batteries Don’t Need Venting

WEBNote that RVIA doesn’t specifically address battery chemistry. The presumption is two-fold. First, AGM batteries still need vented on their own accord. Second, there’s little assurance they would be replaced with AGMs in the future. A flooded lead-acid battery has the same external dimensions and terminal connectors and can be easily

Electrical Myths, Part 1: My Space Heater’s Plug Gets Hot

WEBP = IV = (V R)(V) = V2 R. That lets us easily see what happens to the heater’s power as voltage rises or falls–a 10% increase in voltage results in a 21% increase in power; a 10% drop in voltage results in a 19% drop in power output. Okay, but that’s power at the heater, not power (heat) in the wiring.

Electrical Myths, Part 3: Mixing Batteries of Different Ages/Capacities

WEBLet’s suppose you have 3 different 12V batteries, wired in parallel to supply 12V power to your RV. They can have different capacities on account of size or age, but the same chemistry (e.g. all flooded lead acid or all AGM). Before you start charging, the voltage across each of them is the same–even if one is fully charged and the others
