Wider Impacts of COVID-19
WEBPre-pandemic cancer was the biggest cause of death, (538 of the total 1,874 deaths in 2019/20). In 2021/22 there were 1,257 deaths in Lewisham. Figure 6 (above) illustrates that 82 (7%) of deaths were due to COVID-19, and 354 (28%) due to cancer. Meaning that cancer was once again the most common cause of death.
